Duties and Responsibilities: 

As a sports medicine doctor, you will diagnose and treat athletes and other active people suffering from a sports-related injury or illness. You will have the opportunity to work with medical professionals such as surgeons, physical therapists, physiologists, nutritionists and coaches to help patients in their recovery. You may also be asked to come up with ways of preventing injury and promoting health for individuals actively involved in sports and exercise. A sports medicine doctor helps professional and amateur athletes stay healthy or recover from injury. Education:
 Becoming a sports medicine physician requires completing a four-year pre-medical degree at an accredited college, plus an additional four years of medical school. After these educational requirements are met, sports medicine physicians must complete a medical residency and fellowship before continuing on to obtain a state license. Education and training required to become a sports medicine physician should take about 15 years in total.
