Duties and Responsibilities:The main responsibility of a psychiatric aid is to provide assistance and care services to mentally ill and/or emotionally disturbed patients. As a psychiatric aide, you work directly under the supervision of a medical team. You also assist patients with making their beds, taking their medications, completing paperwork, bathing, getting dressed, grooming, eating, completing tasks, attending doctor’s and therapy appointments and socializing with others.
Salary: $29,671-$40,190
Education: Entry-level requirements for psychiatric aides are quite minimal. Many psychiatric aides do not have formal training, although there are educational programs available in vocational centers, private centers and in community colleges. Despite not having formal training, for most psychiatric aides continuing education is usually a requirement, and workers in this field can expect to take courses and seminars on the latest best practices.
