Paul
“Bear” Bryant was a college football player and coach. He was coach of the University
of Alabama. He was also known for his trademark black and white hound’s-tooth or gingham hat,
deep voice, casually leaning up against the goal post during pre-game warm-ups,
and frequently holding his rolled-up game plan while on the sidelines. He was
born September 11, 1913 in Fordyce, AR and died in January 26,1983 at the age
of 69 in Tuscaloosa, AL and is buried in Elmwood Cemetery. He was the 11th
of 12 children. His
nickname “BEAR” stemmed from his having agreed to wrestle a captive bear during
a theater promotion when he was 13 years old.He was 6ft 4 inches.
